Nice narrative unroll there Tim! Was hanging on for dear life - you've channelled a little Ferrante/Gyllenhaal there - the film is terrific agreed.

As is your take on "look after yourselves" directive from #dickhead and co. Three week ago I knew no-one with COVID here in Melbourne, now more friends/colleagues/staff (!) than I can count have succumbed - all mildly, lords be praised. But many are not so lucky.

Bizarre how we just keep seeing social experiments - usually from Sydney - wreak havoc.

Fingers crossed eh? And good luck to you and the family.

Thanks, Simon. Didn't mean to make it too exciting, lol. Fingers crossed indeed.

Thank you for your stories -,it is so hard to know what it is like living elsewhere- stats alone don’t do it. The good thing about Morrison’s callous approach is that it is making him increasingly more unpopular. Safe travels.

Thanks, Jo. I don't want to oversell how things are here--numbers are high--but it really is easier to access tests, kits etc.

Oh gosh my heart just sank for you when Tanya said she had it, what an ending! 😅 I’m so glad for you, Tanya and Noah.

And you’re right, this bullshit about “living with covid” is just reflective denial, wanting to pretend the pandemic doesn’t exist and life can go back to “normal”. The reality that the NSW and Australian governments don’t want to accept is that we’ve been “living” with covid for almost 2 years now, and lockdowns, restrictions and vaccinations are all part of it.

Thanks, Elana. We were amazed at the negative result. And agree: there is a big difference between 'living with Covid' and 'letting it rip'.

Hi Tim, glad Tanya didn't have COVID. Sorry to hear about the curtailed travel plans but it sounds like the plans you've made are the best given the circumstances. Given your comments about the public v individual response - you'd probably love Scomo's recent announcements that the rapid antigen tests should be left to the market to supply. Given that price gouging is already occurring and it's likely that individuals will need such tests, this seems yet another way of disadvantaging particular individuals in our community. We've had 2 years to plan here ... I'm not sure that's evident. Enjoy the rest of your travels and I hope you all stay safe. regards Mark

Thanks, Mark. His comments are almost unbelievable, except, it's who he is. Can he really survive an election?

Hi Tim, the piece on covid and current action in "the conversation" today is telling. I would have thought this would have the potential to derail election plans made by any current government unless there's some quick corrective action. I suspect that the horse may have bolted. We'll see!

Hi T & T. Enjoyed your post today, as I have all of them. SOOO relieved that Tanya - and all of you - were Covid-free. It must have been very frightening. I did a RAT on Christmas eve after being notified that our choir Christmas party venue (6 days before) had been identified as an exposure site. Went to two 7Elevens and Coles before I could find one, and could only get a 2-pack, which is good as I now have a spare, should I need it. Luckily tested negative, but am getting increasingly nervous, working in a public place. BTW - happy new year to you all. Sorry about London, but from what I hear things are pretty crazy there. Stay well. x
