The first thing I heard was Beyonce’s song Formation. Coming from outside. Then it was drowned out by whistles and drums. Then I heard the chanting.
At first it was in the distance. Then, in an instant, it was like it was in the room. I went out to the balcony and the street where Noah lives was jammed with protestors.
The first thing I saw was American flags, and I though it must be about the submarine thing, which I thought was a bit a strange, but that was just my own cognitive bias jumping to conclusions. (By the way, thanks, Scotty, for pissing France off just as we settle in.)
It was an anti-vax protest, and it was big. Filled the long street end-to-end and took about thirty minutes to pass. Police on foot at one end, police in cars and vans at the other.
I got a few dirty looks as I filmed and took photos (we are only one floor up), but on the whole, it seemed happy and peaceful. If nuts.
